Ce que ça mesure

This is a short adult self-check for signs commonly linked with dyslexia: slower or effortful reading, weak spelling, trouble with left/right and directions, difficulty holding spoken instructions or phone numbers in mind, mixing up sequences such as the months of the year, and finding forms and mental arithmetic hard. It is based on the Vinegrad (1994) Adult Dyslexia Checklist, a widely used 20-item yes/no questionnaire distributed by the British Dyslexia Association.

Comment ça marche

You answer 20 plain-language Yes/No questions about everyday reading, writing, organisation and number tasks. Each 'Yes' scores one point and the points are added up to give a total out of 20. Vinegrad's original guidance is that nine or more 'Yes' answers is a strong indicator that you may be dyslexic and that a formal assessment is worth pursuing. We add a lower 'some indicators' band purely to give gentler feedback; only the nine-or-more cut-off comes from the original checklist.

Conseils pour un résultat fiable

  • 1Bring your result to a professionalIf you score in the higher band, a screenshot or note of your answers can be a useful starting point for a GP, tutor or specialist assessor.
  • 2A high score is not bad newsDyslexia is a difference in how the brain processes written language, not a measure of intelligence or effort. Many dyslexic adults are highly capable, and the right support helps a lot.
  • 3Look at the whole pictureDifficulties with attention, sleep, stress or anxiety can mimic some of these signs, so consider whether other things might be affecting you too.
  • 4Know your rightsA formal diagnosis can unlock reasonable adjustments in study and at work, such as extra time, assistive technology or quieter conditions.
