Ce que ça mesure

How quickly and accurately you can type a short, fixed passage. You get three numbers: gross WPM (raw words per minute, counting any 5 characters as one word), net WPM (your gross speed with typing mistakes subtracted), and accuracy as a percentage of correct keystrokes. Net WPM is the headline figure because it rewards typing cleanly rather than just fast. It is a light, everyday measure of keyboard dexterity and general processing speed — not a medical or cognitive assessment.

Comment ça marche

You read a short passage on screen and retype it into a box below. The timer starts on your very first keystroke and stops the moment your text matches the passage (or when you choose to finish early). As you type, each character is checked against the target: correct characters are marked normal and mistakes are highlighted. We then divide your character count by five to get 'words', divide by the minutes elapsed for gross WPM, subtract your error characters for net WPM, and report correct keystrokes over total as accuracy.

Conseils pour un résultat fiable

  • 1Don't look at your handsGlancing down breaks your rhythm. Trusting muscle memory, even imperfectly, is how touch-typing speed grows.
  • 2Let errors goFixing every slip costs time. A steady, mostly-accurate pace often gives a higher net WPM than constant backspacing.
  • 3Warm up firstYour first attempt is often your slowest. Run it two or three times and your hands will settle into the passage.
  • 4Compare like with likeAlways retest on the same keyboard and posture if you want to track real change over time.
